Whey protein and acne

There is no definite proven link between whey protein and acne. Whey is the byproduct of cheese production. It is rich in proteins and is extensively used by body builders since it contributes to muscle building. Overall whey protein does not have any adverse side effects and is safe for consumption. However, if you are allergic to dairy products, whey proteins can cause skin irritation and rashes. Other than that, there does not seem to be a link between whey proteins and acne. Some people feel that acne outbreaks are more common among body builders because they sweat excessively while working out.

Sweat and grime can clog pores and cause acne outbreaks. Cleaning your face using a gentle face wash should alleviate this problem. If whey proteins cause rashes on your skin, the best thing to do is to find alternate source of protein. Chicken, seafood, eggs and soybean are good alternatives to whey proteins. The best way to find out whether you are allergic to whey proteins is to keep track of your food intake and acne outbreaks in a food diary. You will be able to use this to identify the foods which you are allergic to.
