Over the counter drugs for acne

Over the counter drugs are generally used by the people who have mild acne problems. Some of the over the counter drugs that are commonly used are as follows

Benzoyl Peroxide:

This is a very common acne drug that is used by acne patients. They are available in the form of lotions, creams and cleansers. They kill Propionibacterium acnes that are major cause for the development of acne. Apart from this, it also acts as an anti-inflammatory drug that helps in reducing inflammation.

Sulfur and Resorcinol:

They are found in combination in several acne products. Resorcinol work by removing the accumulation of dead cells on the skin and thus prevent comedones whereas the working of sulfur is still not very clear. When they are used together, they help in reducing excess oil from the skin

Salicylic Acid:

This over the counter drug works by shedding the dead cells in a more effective way. This will help in unblocking the pores. They work greatly for removing whiteheads and blackheads. They are founds in several products and medications for treating acne.

Alcohol and Acetone:

Alcohol helps in reducing the production of bacteria that triggers acne and acetone helps in removing the excess oil. When used in combination, they help in cleansing oil and reduce the pore blockages.
