Is chlorine good for acne?

No, chlorine is not good for acne considering the long term effects. Chlorine is one of the causes for acne. Exposure to higher levels of chlorine compounds, mostly chlorinated dioxins can result in acne. It is a severe form of acne and is often termed as chloracne. It increases the acne outbreaks because of its inherent skin irritation effects. Chlorine dries the skin, causes rashes and causes irritation to the already existing ones. A scientific reason behind this is that chlorine dries the skin severely. Due to this the skin naturally produces more oil to compensate for the dry skin. Too much oil produced worsens the acne. It is observed that during initial treatment of acne with chlorine improves the condition, however the long term effects of chlorine are disastrous. Doctors even recommend showers filters to avoid the impact of chlorine. While showering the chlorine in the water widens the skin pores thereby making dermal absorption of chlorine and other chemicals much easy. Too much of chlorine not only dries the skin but also makes it itchy. One must seek medical attention to reduce the acne instead of going for “chlorine treatment” or before using any of the market products that claim to treat acne.
