Can Hormones be blamed for the development of Acne?

Hormones are often blamed for the development of acne. Hormonal changes in women related to menstruation, pregnancy, and taking birth control pills causes slight to moderate acne. However hormones are not generally the root cause for acne. Our maturation of the skin and oil glands depends on hormones. That why children do not go through acne. Hormonal imbalances can cause more release of sebum, creating hair follicle clog and grow of bacteria on the skin.

The problems related to acne because of hormonal imbalances increase rapidly due to diseases like polycystic ovary syndrome. But the majority people with acne suffer not because of hormonal imbalances.

A lot of natural acne products are available in the market, which promises to reduce the hormonal imbalance by equalization. However, these products have been subject to limited regulation as dietary supplements by the Food and Drug Administration. So individuals have to be careful before buying these products.

Adult acne often causes distress and frustration among sufferers. It can take months or even years to cure acne successfully. One should consult a dermatologist if he is concerned about adult acne. One should not take any dietary supplements before consulting the doctor, as it may cause serious health damage.
