Chemical peels for acne

A chemical peel is also called derma-peeling or chemexfoliation and is used to remove or reduce acne scars and acne itself, non-surgically. In this method, chemical mixtures are applied on the skin. The chemical moistures work in removing damaged outer layer of skin. This results in tighter, smoother and clearer skin. Chemical peels can be of 3 kinds- deep peels, medium peels and superficial peels. Each kind of peel penetrates the skin to a different extent and help combat acne. There are some chemical peels that are available over the counter and that are not too expensive. These can be used at home for a light facial. Deep chemical peels should only be done under medical supervision and, in fact, there are some places that do not allow non-medical personnel to do it. Costs of chemical peels vary.

The over the counter peels can be got for as low as $30. However, professional peels are costlier and can range from below $100 to thousands of dollars, depending on the place and the type of peel. These peels are not painful, but can leave you with slightly sensitive or flaky skin for some days following the treatment. You should not start using make up immediately after having a chemical peel. Heavy sunlight and tanning beds should also be avoided. Chemical peels for acne should never be used by pregnant women or those who are breast feeding.
