Causes of whiteheads
Whiteheads form when sebaceous matter and dead skin cells accumulate and form bumps in the pores or the follicles of the skin. They are nothing but a combination of keratin and sebum along with bacteria inside the follicles. Whiteheads are caused due to the following reasons:
- Hormonal imbalance: During adolescence, the body undergoes a number of changes. Certain glands become active. Excessive hormone secretion can fuel oil production by the oil glands in the skin. This cases whiteheads on the back, neck and face, primarily on the cheeks and the forehead.
- Poor hygiene: Lack of cleanliness and care for skin causes acne. It is extremely important to wash the face and bathe properly to clear the body of all the dust and pollution that settles down on it during the day. One must bathe daily, no less that once every day.
- Food: Certain foods can trigger acne. Chocolate and oily foods have been associated with acne for ages. Fried food is very harmful and can worsen the already present acne.
- Make up: Excessive make up also causes whiteheads. Oil based cosmetics are more harmful than the water based ones. Make up should be removed at the end of the day with a suitable cleanser.
