Can Acne be treated with

Combination Therapies?

When creams and oral antibodies are used along with laser treatments, it increases the successful rate. Some of the combinations of therapies are discussed below:

Retinoid and oral antibiotics
Retinoid (which is a prescription derived from Vitamin A) when combined with oral antibiotics, gives a better treatment for acne. It works by preventing the hair follicle from plugging, and allowing the cell to turnover. Oral antibiotics help to kill the bacteria causing P. acnes, and reduce the inflammation.

Benzoyl peroxide and topical antibiotics
Benzoyl peroxide works best when combined with antibiotics, before applying it on the skin. It works by killing the bacteria, drying up the oil and allow the dead skill cell to slough. The purpose of tropical antibiotics is to kill the bacteria located on the skin surface and to fight inflammation.

If a particular antibiotic is overused or misused then it can make the P. acnes more resistant to that particular antibiotic. The skin become more resistant to bacteria, and treating the acne becomes difficult due ineffectiveness of the antibiotic in killing bacteria. Benzoyl peroxide on the other hand when combined with antibiotics, are less likely to show resistance towards bacteria. The conditions which are treated using this include leprosy, tuberculosis, malaria, cancer and HIV/AIDS.
